Where do you want to go? Pivot is a customer engagement company that comes alongside our clients to help them comprehend their markets through our research division, connect with their audience through our marketing and creative services agency, and convert leads into sales through our training division. We are a group of dreamers and hard workers who love telling our clients’ stories. We also love ice cream, because ice cream.
The Dreamer. Before founding Pivot, Dave ran the marketing practices for two national consulting firms. Dave holds a business degree from San Diego State University and has completed the AMA School of Marketing Research, University of Notre Dame. When he’s not trying to help clients, he can be found spending time with family outdoors especially if it’s in a campground or on a lacrosse field. Dave is particularly passionate about helping children in need around the world, and is constantly on the search for the world’s best chocolate mousse.
The Sixth Man. Mark has held some interesting positions: deal prognosticator, chip stacker, spreadsheet jockey, roadblock remover, and code monkey. He was a software engineer for Nobeltec and ImageBuilder prior to becoming a technical marketing engineer for Intel, and a senior product manager for Boeing. Mark and his wife have six children, lots of laundry, and a serious problem getting to bed by a reasonable hour. Mark has a degree from Biola University and a penchant for dark chocolate.
The Competitor. Bernie is a well-respected leader in the independent telecom industry, and has a comprehensive understanding of the telecom industry. Before coming to Pivot, he spent seven years as vice president of business development for the National Telecommunications Cooperative Association (NTCA). Bernie is an avid football fan with a passion for the Steelers, though he has never lived in Pittsburgh. Call Bernie at 240-423-0058.
The Volunteer. Jeremy leads Pivot’s telecom division and has a particular passion for training teams to create memorable customer experiences. Prior to joining Pivot, Jeremy was Chief Operating Officer for Valley TeleCom Group, where he oversaw all marketing and sales activities, new product development and customer service operations. Jeremy, a graduate of both Missouri State University and the University of Tennessee, now resides in Tucson, Arizona with his wife and three children, but still lives and dies by the Tennessee Volunteers. Cyclone. Megan comes to Pivot from Western Iowa Networks, where she served in the role of Marketing Director and Business Development. Though she attended the University of Northern Iowa, Megan, her husband and four children are huge Iowa State fans. Megan puts ketchup on absolutely everything she eats, to the dismay of cupcake and fruit vendors everywhere.
Bend it Like… Ryan has a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing with an emphasis in Graphic Design from George Fox University. Before joining Pivot, he designed websites for power sport dealerships throughout North America and managed his own woodworking business, creating high-end wood cutting boards, serving trays, and chess boards. Ryan married his high school sweetheart Kaitlyn in 2014. In his spare time, he enjoys making reclaimed furniture and hiking. His personal mission is to know absolutely everything about Apple.
Nontrivial Pursuit. Karl graduated from Case Western Reserve University in 2011 with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, International Studies, and Music Performance. Before joining Pivot’s research team, Karl worked in the travel industry, selling vacation packages to Italy, France, and the UK. Prior to that, he worked as a rancher in Texas and a commercial fisherman in Alaska. When not tinkering with spreadsheets and trying to find his calculator, Karl plays guitar and bass clarinet in a local space-rock band.
Fastball. Joey graduated from George Fox University—he played on GFU’s baseball team—with his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (focus in marketing). Before coming to Pivot, Joey worked for a public relations firm called Waggener Edstrom, where he worked on the Microsoft PR team. Joey married his wife Molly in 2010. He says that although he worked for four years in college at Starbucks, he didn’t become a coffee drinker until after he left.
Director of Research
The Big Picture. Steve has 25 years of research experience as a former Principal of two full service research companies. He has designed and managed more than 500 studies for companies including 3M, Intel, Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of North Dakota and an MBA from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management. In his spare time, Steve enjoys golfing, wakeboarding and watching his two boys play football under the Friday night lights of Fall.
Gemini. Ameena came to Pivot after completing a double Bachelor’s degree in both Studio Arts and Global Business. Previously, she worked in the George Fox library and in the Department of Art and Design. In addition to her business training, Ameena is an artist specializing in visual arts. She volunteers regularly at OMSI, and loves getting outdoors and practicing her French. Ameena is one of two twin sisters, and has the distinction of being the only Pivoteer with no middle name.
Coolerado. Ashley comes to Pivot from Silver Star Communications, where she filled a variety of marketing roles. Before that, she worked in the mortgage, financial planning, and event industries. Ashley has a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, which she earned in three years from the University of Wyoming. Go Pokes! She lives in Colorado with her husband and two children, loves running and the outdoors, is passionate about wine and holds the title as the world’s okayest skier.
Dynamo. Victor comes to Pivot with more than 30 years of experience in the mailing industry. Serving in various sales, sales management, and business development roles, he has established world-class sales teams across the United States. Originally from the Chicagoland area, Victor started his own business while he attended Loyola University of Chicago, majoring in Philosophy. He came to Oregon with his wife and two sons in 1991 and has lived here in paradise ever since. Believe it or not, his favorite Star Wars character is Jar Jar Binks.
Busy Betty. Before coming to Pivot, Janice worked as a secretary/receptionist, muffin baker, pharmacy assistant and in-home childcare provider. Janice and her husband are empty nesters, and love visiting national parks and cities across the U.S. and Canada. She enjoys hiking, yoga, snow shoeing, ziplining, bike riding, and reading (one of these things is not like the other!).
Sand Between Your Toes. Courtney graduated from the University of Idaho with a Bachelor’s degree in Business, and worked for the University of Redlands and the Irvine Company before moving to Portland in 2002. She did the important work of raising a family before joining Pivot’s research team. Today, she enjoys hiking, biking, running, camping and road trips, and daydreams about sunny beaches.
Nonprofit Account Lead
Little Miss Sunshine. Casey returned to Pivot after two years spent lobbying in Oregon’s Capitol around issues such as juvenile rights, behavioral health, and foster care. Casey graduated from Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, and worked with Pivot in years past in project management and communications. Casey loves music, baking bread, and being unreasonable about the superiority of Portland’s east side.
Sales Support Administrator
Read. Write. Repeat. Lauren comes to Pivot from KinderCare, where she was a business proposal writer. She has a Bachelor’s degree in English from the University of California and a Master’s degree in American Literature from San Diego State University. Before moving to Oregon, she taught business writing courses at a local community college, as well as classes in composition, reading and literature. Lauren is a former tap dancer, loves books of all kind, and once hiked the Cinque Terre in Italy with her husband. Brava!
Lady of the Lakes. Lisa comes to Pivot after twelve years in various marketing roles at ADC Telecommunications and Hewlett Packard. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication from Miami University of Ohio, and an MBA from the University of St. Thomas. Residing in Minnesota, the land of 10,000 lakes, Lisa and her family enjoy the lake lifestyle. She is the National Coordinator for Zeta Tau Alpha’s NFL THINK PINK® program, spreading breast cancer awareness around the nation. In her spare time, Lisa is a fitness enthusiast and proud hockey and dance mom.
The One and Only. Erik has been a consultant with Pivot Group since 2005, and has more than 20 years of marketing and advertising experience. Erik’s skills include development and implementation of marketing plans, creative direction, branding and image strategies, and advertising and promotions. Erik and his wife are the parents of two daughters, and he lives and dies (mostly dies) with the Seattle Mariners every season.
Director of Nonprofit Marketing
Jack of all Trades. Ian holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music from Yale University, a Master of Divinity from Yale Divinity School, and a Ph.D. in Theology from Union Theological Seminary. Ian is married with two children and is the author of the New York Times bestselling William Shakespeare’s Star Wars series, published by Quirk Books.
Best Supporting Factor. Katie graduated from Whitworth University with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies. Before coming to Pivot in 2010, she served as an intern at another advertising agency in Portland, the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture in Spokane, and Compassion International in Colorado Springs. She’s interested in live concerts, tacos and banjos, and spent a season as her college’s pirate mascot. No, really.
Digital Marketing Specialist
Special Ops. Michael comes to Pivot from Portland State University, where he worked as a web and social media specialist. Before that, Michael served in the U.S. Army, where he was an intelligence analyst. Michael has a Bachelor’s degree from Biola University, with a major in Journalism. Did he mention he is fluent in Russian, practices Historical European Martial Arts (seriously, it’s a thing), and is a Lord of the Rings junkie? This guy’s for real.
Highfiver. When Rachel is not herding goats, painting or exploring she is a graphic designer. Before coming to Pivot she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from George Fox University, lived in New York where she pursued art and design, and married her best friend, Matthew. Rachel loves a single 8 oz. Stumptown latté in the morning.
Quicksilver. Jenny comes to Pivot from Opus Events Agency, where she worked as a Promotional Production Coordinator. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Communication Arts from George Fox University, graduating early as Magna Cum Laude. She married her college sweetheart, David, and has two dogs, Hank and Lucy. If you get really friendly with her, she may show you her superpower: singing the alphabet backwards.
D.J. Griff. David graduated from George Fox University with a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, and was also a member of the George Fox basketball team. David serves as a senior designer and as Pivot’s photographer. David is still pursuing his dream of becoming the first-ever NBA star to also be a professional musician and professional ping-pong player. He could happily live on burritos, if his wife would not disown him for it.
Digital Marketing Specialist
Attention to Detail. Jessica comes to Pivot from a freelance career in a number of positions: writer, editor, book publicist, proofreader, book reviewer, and English tutor. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from Boston University and an MFA in Writing from Pacific University. She was a dancer for 12 years and is now an avid runner and yoga practitioner. If she has her way, she may yet form a competitive dance troupe at Pivot.
Sweetie. Kathleen has been a bookkeeper and accounting assistant since college, when she graduated from the University of Portland with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. She has worked for companies including Reser’s Fine Foods, the Beaverton School District, and various nonprofits. Before coming to Pivot, Kathleen spent seven years as a volunteer bookkeeper for a local church. Kathleen loves camping and taking RV road trips with her husband and their three children. She has a sweet tooth a mile long, loves quilting and painting, and is a registered member of the Osage Tribe in Oklahoma.
Senior Marketing Consultant
The Bug. With her Bachelor’s in Organizational Communications, Abby has more than 20 years’ experience in marketing, community relations, and training. In addition to marketing support, she works closely with customer operations to develop and implement training and tracking programs. An avid gardener and nature-lover, Abby likes to watch things grow.
Wild Side. Cristina’s experience covers a range of print and web design in industries spanning from beauty to nonprofit, entertainment to packaging, and wine and spirits. She has worked on projects including identity/logo development, branding, advertising, packaging, point of purchase, publication layout, invitations, and event graphics. Cristina holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communication from New York’s Cazenovia College. She has a passion for anything with a motor: everything from jet skiing to off-road riding and motorcycling.
Ampersand. Jessica attended the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design (summa cum laude!). Before coming to Pivot, Jessica worked at a small marketing firm in Salem, Oregon, and worked in small business development. Jessica and her husband live in Canby. She collects ampersands, and once won a new car in a design contest. Seriously.
Noodling Around. Kristen has a Bachelor’s degree from George Washington University in International Relations, and studied abroad in Hong Kong and Rome. She also has a degree in Visual Communications from Chemekata Community College. Before Pivot, Kristen served as Design Manager for Chemekata Press and taught courses in print production, file preparation, typography and layout. Kristen is a spaghetti connoisseur, and once maintained a blog of pictures of spaghetti she had taken (spaghettiplease.tumblr.com).
The Wanderer. Taylor comes to Pivot with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design, with a minor in fine arts. Before Pivot, she was an intern at Interactive Communications at OSU, where she focused her time on motion graphics and web design. When she’s not working, Taylor enjoys the outdoors and traveling the world. She is a painter, with a particular love for working with oil paints. Art supplies and coffee are her weaknesses.
Prelude in C Minor. Before coming to Pivot, Catherine worked as the Marketing Officer for Community First Bank and the Marketing Director of Reedsburg Utility Commission, both in Wisconsin. She is co-owner, with her husband Matt, of a woodworking and cabinetry business. Catherine considers chocolate the fifth food group, finds elephants fascinating and auditioned for the second season of American Idol (darn you Ruben Studdard!).
The Star. Annie comes to Pivot with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from George Fox University and a Master’s degree in Culture, Policy and Management from City University London. Before coming to Pivot, Annie worked in event management in both the Willamette Valley wine region and in London for various nonprofit organizations, and worked as a promotions assistant for Salem Communications. Annie enjoys world travel, and her tastes range from the sophisticated (wine tasting) to the not-so-much (milkshakes!).
Go, Pam, Go! Pam is a CMA (Certified Management Accountant) with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Oregon. She has worked for Georgia Pacific, Infocus, Pitman & Brooks CPA, and spent 12 years as a contract accountant while raising her children. She loves spending time with her family doing just about anything outdoors, particularly hiking, biking, kayaking and running. On the weekends, her kids keep her busy with as many as 12 basketball games. Go, Pam!
Senior Web Developer
The Webber. Anthony loves programming. He is pleased by well-organized, efficient, and maintainable code. Responsive & beautiful (both to view and to manage) websites are his sustenance. He has a degree in music composition from the University of Oklahoma, and sees web development as music with a dash of chess. Anthony lives in Wisconsin with his wife and three boys, whom he loves even more than olives and ultimate Frisbee. Anthony cannot move his right toes — make sure to ask him why sometime.
Surf’s Up. Beth comes to Pivot from Quality Matters, Inc., where she served as a Customer Service Manager. She attended Western Oregon State University and Oregon State University, where she studied health promotion and played softball. Beth enjoys volunteering with middle and high school Wyldlife/Young Life, and is an avid wakeboarder, water-skier and wake surfer. If you don’t reach her in her office, you might check the local rivers or lakes.
Director of Marketing Services
Patron Saint of Marketing. Monica’s client projects include developing and implementing marketing and communication strategies, new product launches, and corporate branding. Before joining Pivot in 2005, Monica worked in marketing and communications management for Canby Telcom and two different nonprofit organizations. Monica lives in the Sacramento area with her husband and two teenage sons, but will always call Oregon home.
The Most Interesting Man in the World. Rod is a creative artist with many years’ experience as a freelance graphic designer. He studied fine art and graphic design in British Columbia, and worked for more than 10 years as a contracted Art Director for Glas Water, developing and promoting their beverage products throughout North America. Rod specializes in corporate identity, brand development, custom lettering and 3D illustration. Rod was raised in Congo, Africa—where he remembers Christmas on sunny beaches with his family—and now lives in Oregon with his wife and children.
Director of Marketing Services
Small but Mighty. A graduate of George Washington University, Aaryn majored in Anthropology and Journalism. Before coming to Pivot, she spent nine years as Marketing and Communications Director for Randolph Telephone Membership Corp and seven years as Director of Communications for the NTCA. Aaryn and her husband live in North Carolina with their two children, where (if you’re lucky) you might see her dance in a Dancing With The Stars knock-off for the local college scholarship fundraiser.
Tall but Mighty. Tim graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, and comes to Pivot from work with Nike, Road Runner Sports and Logical Position. He has a background in digital marketing and has been working at various jobs since he was 15 years old. At 6 feet 8 inches, Tim has the distinction of being Pivot’s tallest employee, and loves staying fit with volleyball and flag football. Needless to say, he exists on a different level than the rest of us.
Customer Experience Trainer
Snowman. Leif was the Marketing Manager at Hiawatha Communications before joining the Pivot team. He has held positions in marketing and sales in the telecom industry for more than 20 years, served in the U.S. Army as a Russian linguist, and has studied Russian History and Music Performance. In his spare time, Leif enjoys spending time with his wife and children, listening to jazz, shoveling snow and more snow, and sampling beer as often as he can.
Digital Marketing Developer
Webcrawler. Josh serves as Pivot’s Junior Web Programmer, developing and providing maintenance for Pivot client sites. In addition to web design, Josh codes most of the eblasts Pivot creates for our clients. Self-taught in HTML and CSS, Josh’s varied interests including reading, cooking, video production, soccer, archery and skateboarding. He claims to be able to juggle soccer balls (but not necessarily simultaneous with coding).
Sunbeam. Jenn Wilson studied at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh but picked up most of her design skills working at a screen printing shop. Before coming to Pivot, Jenn worked as a freelance designer. She serves Pivot as a designer, creating collateral for our clients’ marketing campaigns. Jenn loves activities in the outdoors, exploring the northwest, and once owned a kettle corn stand called Craving Kettle Corn.
The Caffeinator. Alyssa comes to Pivot from Wyndham Hotel Group, where she focused on brand development and marketing for the namesake brand, Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, as well as Dream Hotels, Night Hotels and Planet Hollywood Hotels. She is a graduate of Azusa Pacific University with a Bachelor’s in English. She matches her passion for coffee and breakfast food — especially bacon, mmm bacon — with a rigorous Crossfit regime.
