Elegant event: Refuge: the beauty of transformation
Africa New Life is a nonprofit organization based in Portland, Oregon. (They are also our next door neighbors and BFFs.) Africa New Life runs several schools in Rwanda, currently sponsors more than 9,000 children, and each year feeds more than a million meals to Rwandan children. Africa New Life holds an annual gala event to raise a significant portion of their annual budget. The October 2017 gala, titled “Refuge: The Beauty of Transformation,” required unique artwork combining black and white photography with a warm gradient color and a customized font. The artwork also presents hopeful imagery to address the serious, and often desperate, situation of children in Rwanda.
The Refuge artwork extended across several gala-related materials: save-the-date mailers, invitations, signage at the gala, gala programs, and post-event communications. Pivot also designed and programmed a landing page on the Africa New Life site for the event, so people could learn more and RSVP easily.
Refuge raised more than $400,000 for this growing nonprofit, and was attended by nearly 500 people—including 245 people new to Africa New Life’s work. Pivot was pleased as punch to be part of a stunning event that, in a single evening, raised about 5% of Africa New Life’s operating costs for the year.
