Website design and development

It’s 10pm, the power is out, and your website just became your customer service department. Somebody wants to know if you serve their home. Somebody needs their bill in a single tap, on a phone, in the dark. Somebody clicked the ad and needs a page that turns them into a subscriber. Somebody makes that all work.

That somebody is us. Most sites get reviewed on a desktop and then fall apart in the passenger seat of a truck on a gravel road. We build ours for the road.

Six reasons providers come to us for web work

Besides our kickin’ attitudes

Your last vendor built it on their own platform. Now a text change requires a support ticket, a new page is met with a new bill, and leaving means starting over. You’re basically renting something you paid to have built.

Where we begin

  • Build on WordPress, an industry-standard
  • Full edit and construction
  • Able to be hosted by you or on our own server
  • Setup so any developer can hop in

Start service. Report an outage. Check a rate. Find out if you serve an address. These are the four things people come for, and on most sites out here at least two of them take more than three taps or push you into a portal that looks like it was built by a different company. Because it was.

Where we begin

  • Find out what people actually come to do
  • Put those four things one tap from the homepage
  • Make the handoff to your portal feel like the same company
  • Test it on a real phone with real signal

They typed the name of a town and a service. Something came back. If it wasn’t you, the sale happened before you knew there was one. Rural search is winnable in a way metro search never is, because the competition for those terms is thin.

Where we begin

  • Find the terms people in your territory actually type
  • Build pages that answer them
  • Fix the technical work holding you back
  • Make the availability check easy to find

People ask an assistant which provider serves their address, or what a gig costs, or whether fiber is available yet. The answer gets assembled from whatever’s readable on the web. Sites without structured data and clear answers get left out of that entirely.

Where we begin

  • Audit what’s actually readable about you
  • Add structured data and schema
  • Write the answers to real questions in plain language
  • Track whether you show up

Color contrast that fails, forms without labels, a menu that can’t be reached by keyboard. For a cooperative with a public service obligation this is a real exposure, and the demand letters have been circulating in this industry for a few years now.

Where we begin

  • Audit against WCAG 2.1 AA
  • Fix the structural problems, not just the surface ones
  • Build accessibility into the templates
  • Give you documentation of what was done

The campaign is ready. The mailer has a URL on it. The URL points at a homepage that doesn’t mention fiber, doesn’t check availability, and doesn’t collect a name. Every dollar of media spend lands on a page that isn’t built to catch it.

Where we begin

  • Build the page the campaign points at
  • Make signing up the only thing to do there
  • Wire up tracking before the first mailer drops
  • Keep it updated as the build moves

Whatever your market,
whatever your size

Not sure where to start? A Web Review looks at your current site across accessibility, mobile, search, and content, and tells you what to fix first.

01

Design and development

Fully customized. No proprietary platform. Accessible by default. Your team can edit it and your next vendor can work on it.

02

Landing pages

Conversion pages built for a specific campaign, with their own URLs for tracking. Planned alongside the campaign.

03

GEO Boost

Structured data, FAQ content, and on-page work so you show up when people ask an AI assistant instead of a search box.

04

Up&Up maintenance

Monthly website updates, backups, security monitoring, and the technical fixes nobody on your team has time for.

Paul Bunyan Communications

“The way we treat our members is our secret sauce, we just need help showing it.”

Seventy-five years of doing right by members leaves a lot to say, and their site had accumulated all of it. Everything a current member needed was in there somewhere. What was harder to find was the answer a person new to the area was looking for: who is this cooperative, and are they any good?

We did the research, the strategy, planning, and the design. Their developer built it. The new site points outward: fewer pages, clearer paths, and the seventy-five years of history told as something worth reading instead of a wall of dates.

Launching later this year.

“Your team was highly knowledgeable, responsive, and consistently delivered on time. Communication was seamless, and the technology and tools you used made collaboration easy and efficient. Beyond your expertise, you were simply great to work with – easy to talk to, approachable, and willing to engage in friendly conversations that helped build a strong working relationship. Your professionalism, responsiveness, and commitment to our success would make it easy for us to recommend to others.”

We take the work personally.
It’s the only way we know.

Questions we get about web

Yes. It’s standard WordPress, hosted wherever you want, editable by your team. You can swap images, change text, post updates. If you decide to work with somebody else in four years, they can pick it up without starting over. We think that’s the only honest way to do this.

Yes. We scale to what you need. Sometimes that’s research, strategy, and design handed to your team to build. Sometimes it’s everything. We’re flexible.

Most run three to five months from kickoff to launch. Content is usually what determines the timeline, not development. If you have your content ready you’ll be at the faster end, and almost nobody has their content ready.

Those usually live with your OSS or billing vendor, and we work with what you have. The goal is that the handoff feels like one company rather than two, even when the technology behind it isn’t.

The legal picture varies and we aren’t attorneys. What we can tell you is that demand letters have been going out in this industry, and that building to WCAG 2.1 AA from the start costs a fraction of retrofitting later.

Generative search optimization. It’s the work that makes your site legible to AI assistants when someone asks them a question instead of typing into a search box. Whether you need it depends on whether people in your market are doing that yet, and increasingly they are.

Depends on page count, how much is custom, and what has to integrate. Tell Ben what you’re working with and he’ll be straight with you.
